Dianna's Internship
Summary
For my internship I wanted to do something that involved kids so i could get a better understanding of how kids of this generation are. So I talked over it with a few people and discovered that i had the opportunity to intern at Nea's after school program watching kids. We would take the kids over to the park after we signed them in. After they got a lot of energy out we took them inside to get snack and then play and interact with other kids and or participate in staff led activities.

The first day i wasn't really sure what to say to the kids and so i mainly just observed the kids and what the people who worked there did. I asked one girl (Jessica) what they normally do with the kids after school and she told me that right after school the play to get some energy out then they go inside and play more and get snack until their parent comes to sign them out.
Half way through working with them i realized i wouldn't want my kid going to an after school care like that. They basically let anyone pick up the kids and they dont keep track of them. They let the kids 5-8 escort eachother to the restroom through the school parking lot which most of the time neither of the kids would be looking for cars.
During my last few days i realized the kids aren't really as absorbent as when i was a kid. I expected some to come up to me and ask questions or ask me who i am or why im here. The only time a kid came up to me was to tell on another person.
